Romany: The Lost Half Hour

Romany of the BBC was the UK's first wildlife broadcaster.  His weekly radio series 'Out with Romany' was broadcast on BBC Children's Hour from 1932-43.  This rare recording was originally transmitted in October 1943, six weeks before Romany's death.  It has remained in archives for over 60 years and has now been released to the general public for the very first time.

Eldra

Set in the mountains of Snowdonia in the 1930s, an S4C drama based on the childhood of Eldra Roberts, a descendant of the Abram Wood/Roberts Welsh Gypsy tribe.
                                                                          
Tensions rise when miner’s son Robat becomes fascinated by Eldra, a bare-foot Gypsy girl who keeps company with a fox cub.  Meanwhile, Eldra’s grandparents roll into town in their Gypsy caravan, reminding the family of their Romany ways.  So will their friendship survive or is it doomed to fall with the autumn leaves?

Miss Alexander and her incredible historical film archive
- an 80 year old cinefilm diary of Wales, the Wirral, Germany and New Zealand.

In 1996 producer Stef of ValleyStream discovered a rare archive of 13,000ft of 16mm cinefilm.  Behind the footage lay the story of an extraordinary woman and her Kodak clockwork camera.  She was Marjorie Alexander, who never stopped filming from the 1930s to 1960s.  Well worth a click - read the whole story!
